Private firework parties are antisocial on the following grounds:
1. They pollute the air with greenhouse gases causing problems for people with poor respiratory health for days afterwards.
2. They disturb the peace
3. They put people at risk of serious injury, particularly children and young people.
4. They traumatise dumb animals, both wild and domestic.
5. They are an unnecessary waste of resources
6. They put undue pressure of emergency services
7. They cause accidental injury and death when poorly supervised
8. They are unscheduled and spontaneous and therefore cannot be planned for by people with nervous dispositions, or who have domestic pets.
9. The bylaws governing them are not enforced in most cases

• I have a problem with this pledge, having enjoyed many private firework displays in my time. They certainly don't pollute the air as much as public displays, and public displays will also affect all but points 6 and 7 in your list, while 8 is rather scraping the barrel. Not that I agree, but why not go for an outright ban instead? Not that it matters, really. Selling what amounts to gunpowder to the public isn't going to be permitted much longer.

• By your same logic, I expect so see a "put an end to cars" pledge and a "put an end to trains" pledge very soon, they are also noisy and pollute and cause people injury sometimes. Screw the free market, screw everything, just as long as the nanny gets the final say.
